SMITH

Mr. Ray Smith age 77 a lifelong resident of Conyers died Sunday, April 5, 2009. He was born February 20, 1932 in Rockdale County to the late I.W. Smith, Sr. and Lillian O. (King) Smith. Mr. Smith proudly served our country in the United States Army. He retired after 30 years of service as a Deputy Sheriff from the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed reading, going to the beach and playing the guitar. He was an avid Braves fan and he loved animals, especially chickens. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Robyn Smith-Hardy and Rob Hardy of McDonough; sister: Louise Smith-Griffin of Conyers; grandson: Joseph Hardy; several nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 6:00-8:00PM. The funeral service for Mr. Smith will be 11:00AM, Wednesday April 8, 2009 in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Kitchen officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Conyers, GA.
