Mr. John Douglas Fairburn

John Douglas Fairburn of Greensboro, Georgia, born January 24, 1939 went home to be with his Lord And Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the age of 75. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Mildred Dreyer Fairburn and John Douglas Montegue Fairburn, who preceded him in death along with his older sister, Dorothy Fairburn Roberts. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice Jones Fairburn and sister, Lynne Gabriel (Dennis), six nephews and two nieces. John graduated from Grady High in Atlanta in 1956 and attended the Citadel from 1956-1957. He graduated from Ohio Christian School with a Master’s degree and served in the Coast Guard Reserves for several years. He was employed at Atlanta-Journal Constitution from 1962-1964 in advertising sales. From 1964-1992 he was employed by Planters Life Savers Candy Division as a wholesale-retail sales representative covering many stores in two-thirds of Georgia. After living in Covington for 25 years, they moved to Asheville, North Carolina living there for eight years and returned to Georgia where they retired at Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee in 2004. John was a member of First Baptist Church, Atlanta (Charles Stanley, pastor) and also attended Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Men’s Bible Study Group. He loved studying God’s Holy Word and depending on his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as his anchor.

Memorial Services will be held, Friday, July 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, 113 Scott Road, Eatonton, GA 31024 with Dr. John McMillan, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Serving as honorary pallbearers are members of the Men’s Bible Study Group, his golfing buddies, the Birthday Bunch, and the CBS Sisters. The family requests that any memorials be made to Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, 113 Scott Road, Eatonton, Georgia 31024 or the Christian Jew Foundation, 611 Broadway Street, San Antonio, Texas 78215.
