Henry Drew McRay, Jr. of Covington passed away April 4, 2014 at Landmark Hospital in Athens. He was 79 years of age at the time of his death. Mr. McRay was a retired U.S. Navy veteran with more than 20 years of service. He was a very patriotic and giving person who loved his family dearly, enjoyed going to the ocean, and riding the dirt roads. Mr. McRay attended Gaithers United Methodist for over 20 years, and was currently a member of Christ Cornerstone Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Monty William McRay; parents, Henry Drew, Sr. and Tine (Bates) McRay.
Mr. McRay is survived by his wife, Geraldine K. McRay, son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Kim Gibbs, all of Covington; grandchildren, Courtney Gibbs, Hunter Gibbs, Taylor Christopher Gibbs, Dawson Christopher Gibbs; sister and brother-in-law, Kitty and Bobby Herring of Covington; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. McRay will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, in Covington, with Pastor Darrell Payne and Andy Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday, April 7, from 5 – 8 p.m.
