Mr. Gerald Lee Williams, age 78, of Hoschton, Georgia formerly of Covington passed away March 25, 2014.  He was born May 8, 1935 to the late Aubrey and Ethel Runnell Byrd Williams in Newton County.  Mr. Williams was a graduate of Newton County High School and graduated from the University of Georgia.  He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.  He was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Winder.  As a member of the First Baptist Church of Winder he was a member of the Co-Ed Sunday School Class and a member of the Murphy’s Gang Sunday School Class while a member of the First Baptist Church of Covington, where he was a member for 37 years.  Mr. Williams was active at both his churches; he was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the choir and a Deacon.  He was active in civic organizations as well.  As a member of the Oxford Lions Club for 39 years he served as Past President, he was on the Board of Directors and served as Treasurer for 13 years.  Mr. Williams had a long career in banking and retired after 30 years of service retiring from Wachovia Bank.  He is survived by his wife Corra Costley Williams, along with other family and his church families from both First Baptist Church of Covington and First Baptist Church of Winder. 

 

Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be held at 11 o’clock Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Dr. John Talley and Dr. Len Strozier officiating.  Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4pm until 6pm on Thursday, March 27, 2014.  J.C.
