Mr. Charles Ray Geiger, age 75, of Covington passed away February 8, 2013 at Newton Medical Center. He was born November 25 1937 in Covington to Charles Henderson and Thelma Allen Geiger. Mr. Geiger was a member of North Covington United Methodist Church and was employed with the City of Covington for 43 years serving as one of the first employees of the Building and Zoning Department. He graduated from the Newton County High School in 1957 and attended college at Southern Tech before serving his country in the United States Army. Mr. Geiger was preceded in death by his wife Muree Geiger in May of 2011.
Mr. Geiger is survived by; Son and Daughter-in-law Michael and Mechelle Geiger of Covington, his Daughter Lisa Geiger Thomason of Covington, his Sister Ann Turlington of Mableton, his four Grandchildren; Paul Geiger, Ben Thomason, Jeremy Thomason and Lila Geiger. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Geiger will be held at 2:30pm Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Covington First United Methodist Church with Reverend Michael Bell officiating and the eulogy being delivered by Mr. Frank Turner. Mr. Geiger will be placed in state at the church at 1:30pm. Interment will follow at Covington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5pm until 9pm Tuesday, February 12, 2013. J.C.
