Mildred “Mrs. Millie” Maloy, a lifelong resident of Porterdale, passed away September 27, 2014, at the age of 95. She was a member of Porterdale Baptist Church and the Porterdale Woman’s Club. Mrs. Millie was known for her sharp mind and quick wit, and therefore gained the nickname, “The General”. She loved her family dearly and especially cherished her role as a grandmother. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family. Mrs. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl B. Maloy; parents, Leo and Candace Shaw; and her brother, Marshall “Pete” Shaw.
Survivors include her daughter, Carlyn Maloy McConnell and her husband, Jerry; grandchildren and their spouses, Thomas Shay and Jeanette Hopkins, Walter and Beth McConnell; great-grandchildren, Emily Shay Hopkins, Rachael McConnell, Walter McConnell, III; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Beth Shaw; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Millie were held Monday, September 29, 2014, 11 a.m., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Dickie Johnson officiating, and interment followed in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Porterdale Baptist Church, P.O. Box 637, Porterdale, GA 30070.
