Mr. Melvin Lee “Jack” Nolley, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Emmett (Minnie Benton) Nolley was born on Jan. 26, 1925, in Newton County. He attended Newton County Schools. He joined Sims Chapel Baptist Church in Covington and later moved his membership to Mount Zion First Baptist Church in Oxford.
He departed this earthy life on Thursday, July 5, 2018.
He married Julia Edna Shepherd in 1947. He is preceded in death by his wife, Julia Edna Shepherd; four children, Mary, Lelia, Timothy and Ralph; six brothers and four sisters.
He is leaves to cherish his memories eight children, Mr. Melvin Eugene Nolley, of Oxford, Mr. and Mrs. David (Shirley) Nolley, of Covington, GA, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell (Julia Denise) Britt, of Augusta, Mr. and Mrs. William (Mae) Hutchinson, of Suffolk, Virginia, Mr. Phillip Nolley, of Oxford, Ms. Linda Nolley, of Covington, Mr. Herman Nolley and Mrs. Willie Lou Nolley; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Chaunelle Nolley; 23 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Belcher; one brother, Mr. and Mrs. Willie K. (Ruth) Nolley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A homegoing service began at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at Mount Zion First Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Williams as pastor and eulogist. Burial followed in the Sims Chapel Baptist Church cemetery. A meal followed in the Mount Zion First Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Mr. Nolley’s nieces served as floral bearers and grandsons served as pallbearers.
