Maurice Loren “Bud” Northcutt passed away peacefully Aug. 1, 2017, at the age of 89.  He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Building Construction, and earned a Master’s degree from the University of Missouri, Rolla School of Mines. Bud served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1978 as full Colonel after 30 years of distinguished service.  After the Army, Bud taught at Southern Polytechnic State University in Kennesaw, where he was beloved by his students.

Bud was preceded in death by his second wife, Maxine Moore Northcutt, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him and especially his surviving family: daughter, Linda Gardner, and her husband, Richard; son, Duane Northcutt, and his wife, Monica Lam; step-daughters, Kim Carter, and husband, Maurice, and Joy Casper; sisters, Norma Horton, Verna Teachworth; and his brother, Barry Northcutt.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, 3 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Covington, Rev. Dr. Douglas Gilreath officiating. A private entombment service will be held at Memory Chapel Mausoleum in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family Sunday, Aug. 6, 3 – 5 p.m., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the food pantry at the First United Methodist Church, 1113 Conyers St., SW, Covington, GA 30014.
