Mary Kitchens Lassiter, 86, of Covington, passed away Jan. 9, at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living, in Gainesville. Mary was born in 1926 in Newton County, the daughter of Thomas Watson and Genie Strickland Kitchens. A dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, she loved cooking and taking care of her family. Mrs. Lassiter was preceded in death by her husband James William (Bill) Lassiter, brother Watson Harvey Kitchens and sisters Mildred Watkins and Ora Mae Short.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Lynda and Ken Haynie; son and daughter-in-law James William (Jim) Jr. and Joie Lassiter; grandchildren Kimberly Hughes, Jason, Brian and Katie Lassiter; five great-grandchildren; sister Betty Kitchens Fuller; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., Sunday, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346; or another charity of your choice.
