Mary Holmes, of Newborn, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at the age of 87. Mrs. Holmes, a member of the Baptist faith, was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a big fan of watching her great-grandchildren play baseball and football. When not working in her yard, Mrs. Holmes could be found baking cakes - most notably, peanut butter and red velvet. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Walter Sikes; second husband, James Melvin Holmes; parents, William Franklin and Annie (Barron) Walker; sister, Mildred Holmes; brothers, J.W. Walker, Henry Walker, Bobby Walker.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Judy Sikes, Gary Sikes and Elizabeth Cline, Ray Sikes and Debra Bailey; step-son and his wife, Todd and Pam Holmes; grandchildren, Keely and Russell Nelms, Kristi and Scott Tolleson, Kara and Justin Hipps, Michelle Stribling, John Sikes, Travis Holmes, Troy Holmes; great-grandchildren, Cameron Chambers, Keelyn Harper, Ethan Harper, Zach Tolleson, Harrison Tolleson, Emmalin Stribling, Abigail Stribling, Natalie Holmes; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Holmes will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, 2 p.m., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Rodney Holmes, officiating and interment following in Social Circle City Cemetery, in Social Circle. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
