Mary Goetze, a resident of Social Circle Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center since 2003, was born in West Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1911.  She moved to Georgia to be near her children and grandchildren in 1993.  Her parents, Agnes and Joseph Lewein, emigrated from Austria.  Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Ferdinand, and her eleven siblings: Jack Lewein; Elizabeth Meehan; George Lewein; Ursula Ralston; Agnes Kaiser; Joseph Lewein; Ferdie Lewein; Steve Lewein; Matt Lewein; Paul Lewein; and Gertrude Poeltzig. 

 

She is survived by her son, Gregg Goetze and her daughter-in-law Irene, and also by her daughter Linda and her son-in-law Barry Braender.  Mary leaves behind one grandson Nicholas Goetze and his wife Linda, and three granddaughters and their spouses: Victoria and James Ackerman; Emily and Robert Gossett; and Alison and Matt Williamson.  In addition, Mary is survived by five great grandchildren: Jake Ackerman; Nathanial and Nicole Goetze; and Bryant and Ansley Gossett.  Mary enjoyed the company of many nieces, nephews and friends.  In 1975, Mary retired from the Milwaukee School System where she was an administrative secretary to the guidance and counseling department.  She also worked as a legal secretary.  Mary enjoyed many leisure activities including golf, traveling, sewing, and knitting.  Her positive attitude and work ethic were two of her most outstanding qualities.  She also participated in gymnastices as a member of the Milwaukee Turners Club. She sang soprano in a choral organization in Milwaukee and was quite familiar with many operas.
