Marilyn McKay Ellisor, age 71, died Friday October 3, 2014, in her home in Watkinsville, after a valiant year-long confrontation with cancer. During her last days and hours she was comforted by family, many friends and the capable staff of Silverleaf Hospice.

Marilyn was born in Covington on March 21, 1943, to the late James Taylor and Elizabeth (Betty) McKay. She was preceded in death by her sister Dottie McKay and is survived by sisters Ann McKay Wheeler, Covington and Katrina Summers, Swananoa, North Carolina. Marilyn graduated from Georgia Women's College in 1965, and earned the MSW degree in Social Work from University of Georgia. She taught elementary school children in Nevada and California prior to beginning a career with the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services. During her 34 years of service to Georgia's families and children, Marilyn worked in a number of positions including Policy Trainer, Program Consultant, and Supervisor in county, district and state offices. Marilyn had great love and was intensely devoted to her family.

She is survived by her children: Robert Brandon Ellisor, Conyers, and Deena Ellisor Flynn, San Diego; three grandchildren Sage, Brooke, and Michael Flynn; and her puppy Gabriella. Marilyn is also survived by her loyal friend and companion, Earl Elsner, along with his children and their families. One of Marilyn's great pleasures was accompanying Earl on international business travels and hosting international associates during their visits to the US. Her greatest thrill was standing in the presence of Michelangelo's David in the Galleria dell'Accademia, Florencia, IT. Services will be held at Union Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Reverend Jane Hull officiating. Visitation will be in the church fellowship hall on Monday, October 6, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with memorial services to follow at 6:30 in the church sanctuary.
Interment will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Lawnwood Cemetery, Covington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Union Christian Church Building Fund, or Union Christian Church Cemetery Fund (1130 Union Church Rd. Watkinsville, GA 30677), or to your favorite charity.
