Manuel B. Cordero

Mr. Manuel B. Cordero, of Conyers, passed away Sept. 27 at Rockdale Medical Center. He was born in 1927 in Camaguey, Cuba, to Santos and Concha Hernandez Cordero. Mr. Cordero came to the U.S. as a professional baseball player, and his career was cut short due to injury. He worked in the trucking industry for 42 years and served as president of a local trucking company. He was an active member of Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He lived his life as a servant of the Lord and got great joy from watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and participate in sports. He was married to his sweetheart Jean for 61 years.

Mr. Cordero is survived by his wife Jean Hodges Cordero of Conyers; son and daughter-in-law Benny and Debbie Cordero of Conyers; daughters and sons-in-law Vicki and Bob Lynes of Conyers, Cindy and Kelly Daniel of McDonough; grandchildren Clete Cordero, Christa Scardina, Melissa Currie, Gary Hilton, Michele Harding, Casey Cordero, Kelly Jean Hilton; great-grandchildren Ansley Cordero, Braden Cordero, Carson Cordero, Cole Scardina, Avery Scardina, Logan Currie, Peyton Currie, Cliff Hilton, Cariann Hilton, Stella Dickerson and Leila Cordero; brother Pablo Cordero of Camaguey Cuba. He is preceded in death by his parents Santos and Concha Hernandez Cordero.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Sept. 29, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the service at Zion Baptist Church, Covington, at Ga. Highways 20 and 212. The Rev. Reese Sanders and the Rev. Ralph Easterwood will officiate the service. Interment will be at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today.
