June Harwell Cochran of Sandy Springs, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away suddenly on May 17. Her sweet, friendly, positive and warm personality will be missed by many, including her husband Charles P. Cochran, son Dr. Charles P. Cochran Jr. (Tara) of Darien, Conn., daughter Kay Cochran Palmer (Ben) of Sandy Springs. She will especially be missed by her beloved grandchildren Chad, Caroline, Christian and Colin Cochran, and Ben and Matt Palmer who affectionately called her "Junie" and "June-Bug."
Mrs. Cochran was born in 1931 in Covington and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in elementary education. She taught at Faith, Sarah Smith and McClatchey elementary schools as a second grade teacher, and after raising her children, she taught as a substitute teacher in Sandy Springs. Her teaching career continued at The Wesleyan School and Sandy Springs United Methodist Church where she also served on the School Board and volunteered at Vacation Bible School, Church School, Children's Church and the Nursery.
Her vivacious approach to life was infectious and inspiring and always focused on what she could do for others. Mrs. Cochran loved her friends and family, and they all loved her dearly. She looked forward to and enjoyed planning family time together especially the traditional annual vacation to Florida for the past 20 years. She was an inspiration to her family, friends and the community.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. May 23. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sandy Springs United Methodist Church General Memorial Fund, 86 Mount Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
