J.P. Murphy, of Covington, passed away Aug. 23, 2017, at 73 years of age. A resident of Newton County for over 40 years, J.P. worked for Lithonia Lighting and Evans Tool and Die before retiring. He enjoyed yard work, hunting, fishing and traveling to the mountains. One of his favorite pastimes was joyriding! J.P. attended Cornish Mountain Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Louise Murphy; as well as parents, J.C. and Lucille (Whitefield) Murphy.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane Murphy Woods, of Covington; grandchildren, T.J. Woods, Tony Woods; sisters, BettyJean Eavenson, Doris Wooten, Marianne Bobbit, Linda Goebel, Evelyn Eavenson, Sara Johnson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Marianne Murphy, Darby and Joyce Murphy; numerous nieces and nephews; best friend, Phoenix, the family Black Lab.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Murphy will be held Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, 3 p.m., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Jerry Barrett officiating. Entombment will follow in Memory Chapel Mausoleum at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
