Johnny Hammond, of Mansfield, affectionately known as “Santa Johnny,” passed away November 27, 2016, at 74 years of age. After retiring from AT&T, he found his true life calling when he became Santa Johnny. He brought joy to thousands of children who sat on his lap and whispered their Christmas wish lists in his ear. He would tell them to mind their parents, brush their teeth, and say their prayers. Santa Johnny carried in his heart the true meaning of Christmas. Unfortunately Parkinson’s disease ended his Santa career. He was loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Hammond of Mansfield; daughters and son-in-law, Andrea Hammond of Covington, Heather and Stuart Nichols of Hiawassee; grandsons, Hunter and Kolby Moss; two sisters; two brothers; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Santa Johnny will be held Monday, December 5, 2016, 7 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 1113 Conyers St. SW, Covington, with Rev. Mike Wadley and Rev. Dr. Douglas Gilreath officiating.
