Mr. John Herbert “Herb” Sutherland, 83, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018.  He was born in Anderson, South Carolina to Henry and Louise Dodson Sutherland who have preceded him in death.  

Mr. Sutherland was a member of the Burn’s Club of Atlanta and the St. Andrew’s Society of Atlanta.  He was a member of Red Oak United Methodist Church for 38 years.  Mr. Sutherland was an avid reader, he enjoyed gardening, tent camping in the state parks and was a great historian and loved genealogy.  He once built a log cabin by hand, logging and preparing the logs from his own property.  Mr. Sutherland enjoyed Civil War reenactments and participated often.  He is survived by his wife Becky Sutherland,of Covington, his daughter and son-in-law Catharine and David Griffin, of Marshall, Texas, his son John A. Sutherland, of Covington, his grandchildren James and Samuel along with many other family and close friends.

Memorial services for Mr. Sutherland will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Red Oak United Methodist Church with the Rev. Andy Cunningham officiating.  J.C.
