John Green Adams, Jr, known to many as “Rueben”, of Atlanta, passed away December 1st in Covington, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents John Green Adams,Sr. and Alma Jones Adams, and his wife of 54 years, Louise Ozburn Adams.

 

Mr. Adams was born in Newton County, raised in Morgan County and resided his adult life in DeKalb County. A former salesman for Gould/Federal Mogul, he was a self proclaimed peddler, a job that entailed extensive traveling selling engine parts to machine shops throughout the southeast. He loved the outdoors, spending many nights with his brothers and nephews at their campsite in the woods, the “War Wagon.” a place to eat/think/express views and especially laugh.   He was always quick with a joke, a smile and especially a prank and could talk sports or politics or any subject with authority. He was loved and respected by everyone he met, and found many new friends at The Benton House in Covington during the last two years. John served his country in the National Guard.  He was also a member of the Mason Lodge and loved NASCAR racing and his cats.

 

He is survived by his siblings; Peggy Adams Fett of Atlanta, GA, Harry Jones Adams of Tampa, FL,,  Joan Adams Sheldon Frazier of Covington, GA, Hulon Hurst Adams of Newborn, GA and though he and Louise had no children he was very close with his 23 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Adams will be held at 2 O’clock, December 4, 2011, in the chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Sorrells and the Hon. Judge Samuel Ozburn officiating. Interment will follow at Adams Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4pm until 6pm Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to Scottish Rite Hospital, Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund, Newborn, GA, your favorite charity, or the Adams Cemetery Trust Fund (c/o Hulon Adams, Box 97, Newborn, GA 30056).  J.C.
