Joan “Maw Maw” Stone, of Oxford, passed away June 3, 2017, at 90 years of age.  An active member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, Mrs. Stone served as Communion Steward, Membership Chair, and was a member of the Under Fifty-Five class for many years. A strong family woman, she adored spending time with her loved ones – the lake being a favorite spot to fellowship together. Those who knew Mrs. Stone will remember her as sincere, loving and classy. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, of 45 years, Buddy Stone; and parents, Luther and Jessie Williams Gower.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, James H. Stone, III (Stoney), Danny and Kathy Stone; grandchildren Chuck and Pam Stone, Michelle Marks, Patty and George Cribbs, Jimmy and Beth Stone; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Amber, Ben, Ryleigh, Chason, Samantha, and Charlotte; sister, Jean Gower Wright; sister-in-law, Lucy Lockridge; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Stone will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2017, 3 p.m., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Josh Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Oxford Historical Cemetery, Oxford. Friends may visit with her family at the funeral home, Tuesday, June 6, from 5 – 8 p.m.
