Joan Keim James of Covington, passed away October 4, 2010, at the age of 80. Mrs. James was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, an active member of the Service Guild of Covington, and volunteered with the American Red Cross. She loved gardening, reading, playing bridge, and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee James. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Russ Schemmel of Newborn; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Karen James of Woodstock; grandchildren, Rebecca Schemmel and T.J. Pickens of Social Circle, Lee, Erin, and Adam James of Woodstock; great-grandson, Joseph Pickens; brother and sister-in-law, John and Frances Keim of Flowery Branch; sister-in-law, Rosemary James Casey of Warner Robins. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, Sunday, October 10, 2010, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 10, at 1:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, with Deacon Richard Mickle officiating, and the rite of committal following in St. Monica’s Memorial Garden, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. A reception will immediately follow at the church. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to the Covington Service Guild, 992 P.J. East Road, Covington, GA 30014.
