Mr. J.B. Monk Sr., 90, of Covington, passed away April 12. Mr. Monk enjoyed fishing, cutting grass and going to gospel singings.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of Almon Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #77. Mr. Monk loved his family dearly and will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife Fannie Mae Monk; parents Arthur Dewey and Sadie (Crooms) Monk; and brother Holland Monk.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and James Sweat of Eastanollee; sons and daughters-in-law J. B. "Jimmy" and Donna Monk of Covington, Bill and Frida Monk of Lexington, S.C., Larry and Victoria Monk of Martin; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister Alyce Freeman of Covington; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Monk will be held 3 p.m. today, April 14, at the Chapel of Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with Rev. Kenneth Hughes and Rev. Jimmy Glaze officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park.

The family received friends at the funeral home yesterday. Flowers accepted or donations may be made to Almon Baptist Church, 122 Almon Road, Covington, GA 30014.
