Mr. Lewis Jack Brown, 74, of Covington, passed away peacefully at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle Dec.14. Due to a lingering illness, he was a resident of Social Circle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past several years. He was a lifelong resident of Newton County, except for the time spent serving his country in the United States Navy. A very astute student, Jack, as he was known by family and friends, graduated from Newton County High School in 1957. He enjoyed reading, gardening and working with his mother, the late Carolyn Sue Digby, in the family antiques business until her death in 2001. He was very adept in the area of research and refinishing antiques as well as raising beautiful hybrid irises and daylilies.

He is survived by three nieces and several cousins. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly J. Bailey and his stepfather, Thomas Digby. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 21 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. A private interment will take place in The New Covington Cemetery.
