James William Thompson of Covington, GA died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Social Circle Health and Rehabilitation. He was born on November 27, 1921 in Jackson, GA to Hezekiah Columbus and Mary Edna Holifield Thompson. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army serving three years and nine months in the Pacific Theater as a Sergeant. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and was one of the three oldest living members. His passion was hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
Mr. Thompson is survived by wife Ethelene Britt Thompson of Covington, GA; daughter and son-in-law Cherylene and Dr. Ted Schock of Social Circle, GA; step-daughter and husband Brenda and Robert Housworth of Covington, GA; grandson David and wife Jessica Johnson of Covington; step-granddaughter Rhonda and husband Robert P. Tomlin of Loganville, GA; step-grandson Rob and wife Melanie Housworth of Covington, GA; step-granddaughter Kayla and husband Devin Wieseckel of Florida; step-grandson Kris Schock of Roswell, GA; 12 great grandchildren; half brother Raymond Thompson Jr. of Covington; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents Hezekiah Columbus and Mary Edna Holifield Thompson, step-father Raymond Thompson Sr. and three brothers.
Services will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Salem United Methodist Church with Dr. Phil DeMore officiating. Interment will be at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
