Homer Hollon Sears, Jr., of Porterdale, GA, died January 3, 2009, at the age of 86. Mr. Sears served in the U.S. Army-Air Force from September 13, 1940 until May 23, 1945. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa, England, Italy, France and Germany, and was awarded nine Battle Stars. He was also awarded a Presidential Citation Ribbon with an Oak Leaf Cluster, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two silver stars and three bronze stars. Mr. Sears was a lifelong resident of Newton County and was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Hollon, Sr., and Annie G. Smith Sears. He retired in 1982 from Bibb Manufacturing Company after 37 years of service. He was a member of Porterdale Presbyterian Church and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Falcons fan. Mr. Sears was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Sears survivors include his wife of 62 years, Florence H. Sears; daughter, Barbara Webber, Lincoln, NE; sons and daughter-in-law, Garry and Mary Ann Sears, and Russell H. Sears, all of Covington; grandchildren, Dawn Webber, Tony Webber, W. Kirk Sears, Staci and Bryan Satterfield, Brad and Tonya Sears, Lee and Brenda Sears, Brian and Tiffany Dean; great-grandchildren, Kaleb Sears, Khristian Sears, Win Satterfield, Jake Sears, Jada Sears, Hollie Sears, Baylee Dean, Dylan Dean; sister, Inez Wilson; brother, Joe Sears, both of Covington; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Sears were held Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 2:00 PM, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 3134 Floyd Street, Covington, with Rev. William Herndon officiating and interment following at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family received friends at Caldwell & Cowan, 3134 Floyd Street, Monday, January 5, from 4 to 7 PM.
