Hattie Mae Smith, age 74, of Peoria passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born on August 18, 1942  in Covington, TN to the late Joseph and Dorothy Mae (Mann) Johnson. She married William Andrew Smith in Detroit, MI, and they spent 59 wonderful years together.

Hattie Mae is survived by her husband William; children, Walter (Sylvia Wenthrope) Johnson, Eddie Lee Johnson, Ivory (Angela) Johnson, Melvin Smith, and Michelle (Walter) Kelly; grandchildren, Marius Mason, Mailika Rowery, Ronnie Thomas, Patrick Smith, Pepsi Smith, Princess Smith, Erica Draine, Domnick Hogan; brothers, Larry Johnson, Martin Johnson, James Johnson, and Aurthur Booker; sisters Bobbie Hughlett and Helen Herron; one aunt Martha nee Johnson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends that loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and three sisters.

Hattie Mae worked as the Head Housekeeper for Super 8 and as a laundry aide at Sharon Pines. She enjoyed playing card and board games, shopping with her hard-earned money, and taking care of her family. She was a member of Last Harvest Ministries and her love of the Lord was strong.

A visitation for Hattie Mae will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home in Peoria from 2-4 p.m. A second visitation will be held at Laughter Missionary Baptist Church in Covington, TN on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 12 p.m. Hattie Mae will be laid to rest in Townsend Cemetery following services.
