H. Donald Wilbanks, Sr., resident of Newton County for over 65 years, passed away December 18, 2008, at the age of 73. An employee with Hercules for 16 years, he was an active member and former deacon of Porterdale Baptist Church. Mr. Wilbanks served 21 years in the United States Coast Guard on active and reserve duty. In addition to being an avid Atlanta Braves fan, he enjoyed wood-working hobbies. Mr. Wilbanks was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Irene Brock Wilbanks.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Linda Wilbanks; children, Donald Jr., and Sue Wilbanks, Scott and Angie Wilbanks, all of Covington, Susan Wilbanks and Larry Mason of Savannah, Steven Wilbanks and Becky Weeks of Covington; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Hubert Wilbanks of Gainesville; several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Wilbanks will be held Sunday, December 21, 2008, 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd St., with Rev. Dickie Johnson officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family received friends at the funeral home, 3134 Floyd St., Saturday, December 20, from 5-8 PM.
