On Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, a remarkable man and loving husband and father, George Gary Wallace III, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia, from difficulties developed after a massive stroke.

Born Sept. 16, 1943, in Florence, South Carolina, George was the eldest of five children. Surviving siblings are Diane Moss, Sandra Muller, Ronnie Wallace and Terry Wallace.

After high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam. He spent most of his adult life working in the pulp and paper industry until retiring.  He was an active member of the American Legion Post 316, in Woodstock, Georgia, and served as a past commander.

In recent years, he and his surviving wife Karen Wallace resided in Covington. He leaves behind daughter Tara (Wallace) Haff and her husband, Bob; grandchildren, Robert and Casey; son, Anthony Restivo and his wife, Traci Restivo; grandchildren, Sophia, Alexander and Olivia; daughter, Amanda (Restivo) Reyes and her husband, Joel.
Services will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, at 2:30 p.m.Friday, Nov. 8. Family and friends will be received at the Covington home of George and Karen Wallace at 6 p.m., following the service.
