General Jackson “Jack” Carnes, 87, of Covington, passed away April 22.

He was a family man and loved his family dearly.

He also loved his church family at LifePointe Church of the Nazarene.

He had an associate’s degree and worked as an electrical and HVAC contractor. Mr. Carnes was a pilot and enjoyed flying.

He also enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Harley Joseph and Pallie (Welch) Carnes.

Survivors include his loving wife Barbara Lavonia Carnes of Covington; daughter Diane Carnes of Molino, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law Harley Jackson and Sylvia Carnes of Newfoundland, N.J., Timothy Mark and Diane Carnes of Simpsonville, S.C., Jon and Morgan Carnes, of Little Rock, Ark., Keith Alfred and Susanne Carnes of Anchorage, Alaska, Kevin Carnes of Covington; sisters Pallie Raby, of Covington, Thanna Smith also of Covington, Madge Roper, of Monticello; brother Clay Carnes of Alabama; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 24, at LifePointe Church of the Nazarene, 5133 Ga. Highway 36, in Covington, with Pastor Wayne Rutherford officiating, and interment following in New Covington City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. before the service.
