Mr. Garfield “Goose” Johnson was born Nov. 7, 1945, to Mr. Ulyesses Johnson and Mrs. Edna Gaither. He was the fifth of six children born to this union. He joined Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age.
He was educated in the Newton County Public Schools. After briefly serving in the U.S. Navy, he worked several jobs. He was well known for his work as a brick mason and his many other creative talents like wood carving. He was married to Deborah Wright and one daughter was born to this union. He married Selena Daniel in 1976 and to this union two sons were born.
He departed this world for his Heavenly home on Friday, June 29, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Benton and Mrs. Bernice Walker.
He leaves to cherish his memories a wife, Selena Johnson; loving children, Mrs. Rhonda (Eric) Davis, Mr. Lumbricus Johnson, Mr. Gabriel Johnson, Ms. Erica Daniel, Mrs. Donna Hill and Mrs. Vickie (Charles) Clayborn; one sister, Mrs. Houston (the Rev. Herman) Dyer; two brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Herman (Linda) Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Angela) Johnson; 10 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.
A celebration of life began at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Covington with the Rev. Shelton J. Brown as pastor and Minister Johnny C. Johnson as eulogist.
Burial followed in the Johnson Family Cemetery in Covington. The family greeted family and friends at a fellowship meal in the church’s fellowship hall.
Family and friends served as flower ladies and pallbearers.
