Mr. Freddie Andrew Lewis was born Feb. 20, 1942, in Madison to the late Ms. Annie Pearl Lewis and was reared by his grandmother, the late Lue Ella Luke. He attended elementary school and graduated from J. P. Carr High School in Conyers. Freddie received his work ethics as a young child at the age of seven, working in the fields picking cotton and beans. At the age of 10, he started working in his grandmother’s store. In later years, he began his career as a mobile home carrier at Colonial Mobile Home in Rockdale County and Gordon’s Mobile Home Carrier in Madison, before becoming an entrepreneur and owner of Fred’s Mobile Home Carrier.
Freddie was always dressed, “sharp as a tack”, from head to toe. He was an amusing man who presented hilarious jokes that resulted in sidesplitting laughter. Freddie made friends wherever he traveled. He enjoyed being around family and friends. Freddie was a member of the Royal Sportsman Club. In earlier years, he was a member of Rock Temple Church, later joining Bethlehem Baptist Church. His ultimate joy was being a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church Male Chorus.
Mr. Freddie Andrew Lewis was proceeded in death by his mother, Annie Pearl Lewis; his grandmother, Lue Ella Luke; his sister, Annie Lou Lewis and his brother, L. C. Lewis (Blue Boy).
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Elaine Birks Smith Lewis; his daughters, Keeschia Lewis (Barry) Frazier and Kimberly Lewis Franklin; his son, Frederick Marlow (Stephanie) Lewis; his brother, Willie Lee Lewis; his brothers-in-law, Kerry Bernard (Arlene) Smith and Michael (Mary) Thomas; sisters-in-law, Diane Tilgman and Judy Dudley of Atlanta, Georgia and Janie Brandon of Buford, Georgia; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; special first cousins, Marion, Kathy, Gail, Faye, David, Doris, Kay, Shirley N., Ella, Shirley; special friends and thanks, Barbara Cobb, Bobby Chin, Doug Love, Paul and Betty Clark, Tommie Mitchell, Calvin Lloyd, Janet Goodman, and Milledge Gordon.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2177 Usher St. NW, in Covington, with Reverend Karen Kelly and Reverend H.K. Benton, Jr. officiating.
