Frances Ann Chase Straight, 92, of Social Circle, passed away Aug. 8, at Abbey Hospice. Mrs. Straight was born in Lucy, Tenn., the daughter of the late James and Fanny (George) Chase. She attended the University of Mississippi, graduated from Vanderbilt University and later returned to graduate school at age 60 to pursue studies in Christian Counseling at Columbia International University, in Columbia, S.C. She and her late husband, Dr. George William Straight, raised their family in Savannah, where he practiced general medicine and surgery.

While in Savannah, Mrs. Straight was involved in many civic organizations and Christian ministries. In particular, she was involved in the founding of the Children’s Theater, Speech and Hearing Center, Family Counseling Center, and The Savannah Country Day School. She was also president of the Junior League of Savannah. In later years, she was a speaker and retreat leader with Christian Women’s Club of Stonecroft Ministries. After moving to Social Circle, in 1986, she became an active member and Sunday School teacher at Social Circle First Baptist Church. For the past 10 years, Mrs. Straight has been a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, in Covington. She taught many Bible studies over the years, not only in Social Circle, but also in Savannah, Athens, Madison and Covington. Mrs. Straight was loved, and will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and John St. Clair, Nelle and Jim Hall, all of Social Circle, Susan and Jimmy Strahan of Highlands, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Angela Straight of Savannah; grandchildren, George William Straight II, Judith Straight Rushing, Sue Ann Stutz, Scott St. Clair, Chase Cutts, Will St. Clair, Kate Thompson, Amanda Frizzie, Kerri Jones, Matt Hall, Justin Hall, Michael Strahan, Paige Strahan; 20 great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Melissa Cabe, of Monticello.

A memorial service for Mrs. Straight will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 11171 U.S. Highway 278, Covington, with Pastor Rob Rienstra officiating.
