Mrs. Evelyn D. Bruce, age 84, a lifelong resident of Covington passed away April 10, 2017.  She was born February 21, 1933 to John and Lula Davenport who have preceded her in death.  Mrs. Bruce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She loved her granddaughter very much, she retired from her career when Ammie started school and took care of her every day.  Mrs. Bruce was a longtime member of Alcovy United Methodist Church.  She was always ready to go with her friends and family, once after some hesitation she boarded an airplane and went to Yellowstone National Park.  When she got home she told her family if you ever get a chance you should go.  Mrs. Bruce was preceded by her parents and her siblings; Mamie McCart, Gradie Stone, Howard Davenport, Hobert Davenport, and Horace Davenport.  She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Gloria Bruce; her granddaughter, Ammie Bruce; her brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Mary Jean Davenport; her sisters and brother-in-law, Rosa Lee Byrd and Shirley and Frank Harwood; sister-in-law, Minnie Davenport along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bruce will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the funeral home.  J.C.
