Eugenia “Jean” Rose Knight, 88, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Abbey Hospice. Jean was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Gernie and Dolly Rhodes Claiborne. She was a loving wife, mother, mamaw and a friend to all.

Jean was an accomplished artist, whose art was displayed on the set of “In the Heat of The Night.” Her custom creations included “Fabergé” type eggs and toile paintings using saw blades as her canvas. She was an avid gardener and raised different types of animals. Jean’s tireless efforts in bringing out the beauty in the world around her extended to bringing out the best in others. She was truly loved and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents and siblings, she is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Joseph James Knight.

Jean is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Scotty and Sandy Grigsby of Elgin, SC and Johnny Grigsby of Commerce, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Mickie Dianne and Gary Stevens of Covington, GA; 11 grandchildren, Megan, Erin, David, Mary, Misti, Amee, Michael, Tyler, Bobby, Cassie and Chris; 13 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jean will be held Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with Gregory Laffan officiating. Interment will follow at Lenora Baptist Church Cemetery in Snellville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Guests may sign the online register at www.wheelerfuneralhome.com.
