E.R. Sammons of Oxford, passed away September 5, 2011, at the age of 84. Mr. Sammons was a faithful member of The Baptist Tabernacle, and enjoyed gospel music concerts. He was a technical and mechanical innovator; and a great auto mechanic. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching NASCAR, and even enjoyed drag racing when he was younger. Mr. Sammons loved his family dearly, and was an excellent grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethan Ramey and Annie Rooney (McWaters) Sammons.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Sammons of Oxford; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Ron Mast of Covington; sons and daughter-in-law, Walter and Holly Sammons of Conyers, William Charles "Bubba" Sammons of Covington; grandchildren, Ashleigh and Casey Dees, Abbey and Bryan Holland, Michael and Tara Sammons, Kristyn Sammons, Chuck Sammons, Jessica Sammons; great-grandchildren, Cameron Mitchell Dees, Macey Brooke Dees, Aiden James Sammons; sister, Sarah Elizabeth Ayers; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Sammons will be held Thursday, September 8, 2011, 11:00 AM, at The Baptist Tabernacle with Dr. R. Hudson Moody and Dr. David Moody officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Wednesday, September 7, from 6-9 PM.
