Emory (Dump) Bowen of Covington, passed away November 30, 2011, at the age of 81. Mr. Bowen was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean conflict. He was a faithful member of Covington First United Methodist Church, and the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief where he was willing to go wherever, whenever needed. Mr. Bowen retired from Southern Bell, after 37 years of service, was a member of Telephone Pioneers, and was also a member of Golden Fleece Lodge # 6 where he received a 50-year pin from the Masonic Order. Mr. Bowen was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory Sr., and Arry (Hopkins) Bowen.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Emma L. Bowen of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Steve Rider of Oxford; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Dina Bowen; sister-in-law, Inez Bowen, all of Covington; grandchildren, Adrienne and Jacob Williams, Carl and Kristy Rider, Casey and Kati Rider, Drew Bowen, Alex Bowen; great-grandson, Tucker Williams; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Bowen were held Saturday, December 3, 2011, 1:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with Rev. Dr. Douglas Gilreath and Rev. Jan McCoy officiating, and interment followed in Lawnwood Memorial Park.
