Mrs. Dorothy M. Brown, 81, a lifelong resident of Newton County, died Jan. 19. The daughter of the late Boyce and Willie Mae (Harper) Johnson, she was born in Newton County in 1927. Mrs. Brown was retired from The Bibb Manufacturing Company where she worked as a spinner. She loved to travel and enjoyed gardening. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawson T. Brown, daughter Shirley Brown, brother Charles Johnson and sister Elizabeth Simmons.
Surviving are children Julia Hood of Buckhead, Robert Brown, Thomas Brown, Peggy Brown, Willie Brown and Virginia Smith, all of Covington; grandchildren Jennifer Hawkins, Rebecca Smith; great-grandchildren Makayla Hawkins, Michelle Hawkins; other family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the New Covington Cemetery with Ralph Johnson and Billy Simmons officiating. Friends may sign the on-line register at www.wheelerfufneralhome.com.
