Dorothy “Dot” Johnston, of Mansfield, passed away February 16, 2015 at Riverside Health Care Center. She was 92 years of age at the time of her death. After attending business school, Dot worked for Southern Railway in Atlanta for 8 years. She was married for 59 years, 22 years to Ralph Johnson and 37 years to Lt. Col. Charles Johnston. Dot resided in Mansfield for 46 years in the home built by her first husband, Ralph. She had the opportunity to travel around the world with her second husband, Charlie. Dot was a long-time member of Covington First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. In addition, she enjoyed being a member of the Mansfield Garden Club and her bridge clubs. Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Johnson, her second husband, Lt. Col. Charles Johnston; and her parents, Arthur Ethridge and Mattie Lou (Loyd) Hays.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Paul Creech of Cullman, Alabama; son, Mike Johnson of Lizella; step-children, Charlene and Robert Hall of Dunwoody; Harvey Tyler and Trish Johnston of Marquez, Texas, Charles Marvin and Teresa Johnston of Dawsonville; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Allen of Decatur; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will receive friends at her home Saturday, Feb. 28, from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Covington First United Methodist Church, 1113 Conyers Street SE, Covington, GA 30014.
