Sam Jackson, Jr., was born in Rutledge to the late Sam and Ethelene Jackson Aug. 17, 1925.  He became affectionately known to many friends and family as “Uncle Bo”.

Sam was educated in Morgan County. He was employed and retired from the City of Covington after 48 years of dedicated service. At an early age, Sam accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior sealing his future in heaven.  He served faithfully as a Deacon at Sims Chapel Baptist Church under the current leadership of Rev. Cecil Rozier where he was a member for over seventy years.

He was married to the late, Austine Moore Jackson and to this union, they had two sons: Eugene Jackson (deceased) and Walter Jackson; two loving daughters-in-law, Leathia Jackson and Laveldia Jackson; six grandchildren, Gail Allen, Blake Michael Rashad, Bobby Perry, Erica Parks, Pharis Roland and Taris Jackson and eleven great-grandchildren, Emory, Jacob, Braedon, Blake, Aiyanna, Ar’mia, Alycia, Mikayla, Kiba, Xavier and Jalysia.

Sam did everything possible to serve others in the days the Lord allowed him to walk this journey.  Often, you will find him serving others by cutting their grass, picking them up for church, or making the children laugh. His warm, caring and engaging personality is one of the noted attributes of his character.  As family and friends shared their memory of him, his infectious smile was the most noted and he was everybody’s granddaddy; plus, he loved to eat, especially pork chops, peas and collards. He remained busy with is hands by gardening. Even as his health declined, he never forgot about his church, family and friends.

At the young age of 92, Sam peacefully passed away from this journey Sept. 12, 2017 to rest. He leaves to cherish his memory - family and friends who have learned to love more deeply, because he touched their lives by doing it God’s way!

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Sims Chapel Baptist Church, at 61 Sims Chapel Road, in Covington, with Rev. Cecil J. Rozier officiating.

The family of the late Deacon Sam Jackson, Jr., wishes to express their sincere gratitude for all your acts of kindness and expressions of love shared with them during this tough time.  You will forever remain in our hearts and prayers.
