Mr. Clarence "Tommy" Johnson Jr., 70, of Covington, died Dec. 9. The son of the late Clarence Thomas Johnson Sr. and Sarah Louise Mask, he was bon in Newton County. He was not expected to live past his first day but lived to his 70th birthday, unaffected by his handicap. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle, Covington, and loved selling Bibles from his home. He attended Newton High School until the 11th grade and was an Eagle Scout. He loved listening to country music, camping trips and attending Braves games. Mr. Johnson was known as the "North Georgia Hillbilly" to his CB radio buddies.
Surviving are sisters Betty Jean and William (Ike) Robertson, Sandra Lee Johnson, Marcia and Wayne Allen; brother Danny Johnson, all of Covington; aunt and uncle Thelma and J.D. Williamson of Griffin; nieces Monica Johnson, Michelle Robertson; nephews Beau Johnson, Micah Johnson, Marc Allen, Mitch Allen; great-nieces Haven Allen, Georgia Allen, Maggie Johnson; great-nephews Seth Allen, Sage Allen, Matt Allen, Miles Johnson, Marshall Johnson. He was preceded in death by nephew Matt Allen.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 12, at Baptist Tabernacle with Dr. David C. Moody and the Rev. Jim Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
