Charles Wallace Aiken was born in Newton County on June 18, 1929, to the late Charlie and Neva Lassiter Aiken.  He grew up on the family farm and became a carpenter early in his life.  He married the love of his life, Nina Ragan, in 1950, and together they raised two sons.  He retired in 1994, from the State FFA-FHA Camp where he had worked for 27 years. 

Throughout his life, he was involved in many building projects at the FFA-FHA Camp, and his beautiful carpentry work can be seen in the buildings of the camp as well as many homes throughout the Newton County area.  He was a lifelong member of Lovejoy United Methodist Church serving on numerous committees and holding many positions throughout the years.

He will be remembered for his love, his kindness, his smile, his hugs, and his vegetables from his garden.  Some of the sweetest memories of him will be of the hundreds of wooden craft projects that were made by him to be painted by the children attending the summer camp programs at the FFA-FHA camp and the children attending the vacation bible schools at Lovejoy Church.  He was loved by many family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nina Ragan Aiken, son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Frieda (Taylor) Aiken, and son, John Aiken, all of Covington; brother, Tom Aiken, of Barnesville; grandchildren, Martin and Kristen (Aiken) Boyd, of Covington, Charlie Aiken and Amie McElroy, of Garner, North Carolina, and Brian and Libby (Aiken) Lee, of Covington; great-grandchildren, Mallory Elizabeth Boyd, Taylor Adam Boyd, and soon to be born, Abagail Grace Lee; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 at Lovejoy United Methodist Church. Interment followed the service at Lovejoy United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home Friday, Jan. 19.
