Mrs. Cassandra V. Thorne died Nov. 11. She was born in 1959, the daughter of Herbert H. and Corine Gunn, in Washington, D.C. She began her education in the public schools of Washington, D.C., and then graduated from Howard University in 1982 and committed her life to serve God through her professional expertise as an occupational therapist. She relocated to Georgia in 1991 and in 1992 married Michael Thorne. With a smile that lit up a room, Cassandra lived a life that brought glory to God and brightened the lives of people who loved her. She was a member of Greater St. Stephens before she and her family joined Exousia Lighthouse International Christian Ministries in Lithonia where Bishop Carl and Pastor Brenda McRae are pastors.

Her departure leaves a void that only God can fill in the lives of her devoted husband Michael Thorne; her beloved and cherished children Michael (Jamal), Bria and Justin Thorne; loving father Herbert H. Gunn, Sr. (Myrna); brothers Dr. Herbert Gunn Jr. (Connie), Dr. Horace Gunn (Betty), Dwight Gunn (Anna), Carton Gunn (Fabayann), Christopher Gunn (Karen), Clark Gunn (Daphne) and Craig Gunn; father-in-law William Thorne; brother-in-law Winfred Thorne; sisters-in-law Cheryl Cook and Kimberly Thorne; as well as extended family and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a trust fund for the children at Bank of America.

Memorial services for Mrs. Cassandra V. Thorne will be at noon today, Nov. 26, at Young Memorial Chapel with Bishop Carl McRar officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home an hour before the service.
