Bobbi Jean Melton, 72 of Mansfield, died July 8, 2017.  Mrs. Melton was the wife of Charles Melton.  She was born May 23, 1945 in Blue Ridge to Dewey and Willie Payne.  Mrs. Melton was a homemaker and member of Rutledge Baptist Church.  She loved her family and being active in her church as long as she was able.  Mrs. Melton enjoyed travelling and always collecting t-shirts from her travels.

Mrs. Melton is survived by her husband, Charles and daughter, Michelle Melton Smith.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Raygenia Patrick.  Her grandchildren are Angela and James Jenkins, Talena Smith, Dana and Kevin Cote, Tawana Rivers, Ashley Harris, Brandon Harris and Jeffrey Harris.  She also leaves mangreat-grandchildrenen and great-great grandchildren.  Mrs. Melton leaves a brother, D.L. Payne.  She was preceded in death by siblings, Jackie Harwell, JoeAnn Hilton, Judy Taylor, Pete Payne, Johnnie Gossit and Ronnie Payne.

The family received friends on Monday from 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service was held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  The interment followed at the Salem United Methodist Cemetery in Covington.
