Benjamin F. Johnson Jr. died Oct. 23. Born in 1923 in Gwinnett County, he was a son of the late Benjamin F. Johnson Sr. and Lillie Leach Johnson. Most of his life was spent in Walnut Grove. He and his wife moved to Park Place Nursing Facility in 2008. After her death, he spent most of his days sitting at his door, greeting people. His favorite pastime was telling about his life, which he remembered very vividly, and his service in the Army during World War II. His wife, Mable Moulder Johnson, died in 2010. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Laverne Conner and Elizabeth McMillian, and brother, Cecil Johnson.
He is survived by his daughter, Elsie (Steve) Strickland, of Social Circle; grandson, Tom (Dawn) Morris, of Walnut Grove; grandchildren, Bradly (Laura) Morris, of Monroe, Brianna Morris, of Walnut Grove; great-great-grandchildren, Hunter and Logan Morris, of Monroe; brother, Bill (Mildred) Johnson, of Middle Point, Ohio; also nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family appreciates all the love and compassion shown by his Park Place family during his stay and Abbey Hospice during his illness. He loved and was loved by many at Park Place: residents, staff and visitors. They also thank Mansfield Baptist Church and Upper Room SS Class for their love and support.
No service is planned at this time.
