Barbara Rachel Shepherd Johnson, 77, of Covington, passed away Sept. 15. Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Covington, for more than 50 years. Her dedication to her church included serving as an elder, participating with the Circle Lady Bible Study, and working with the finance committee.
She enjoyed cooking and loved traveling. She and her husband, Jesse, had traveled to 47 states, missing Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Obie and Birdie Mae (Lane) Shepherd.
Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, Jesse Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Larry Dover, of Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Phil Johnson and Audrey Workman, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Bret and Yvonne Johnson, of Jasper; grandchildren, Maddie Workman Johnson, Sophie Workman Johnson, Beth Johnson, Ben and Crystal Johnson, Kirsti Dover, Zane Dover; great-granddaughter, Evie Johnson; sister-in-law, Bettie Shepherd, of Covington; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eleanor and T.A. Haney, of Covington, Gerrie and Otis Syfrett, of Chipley, Fla., Zandra and Larry Davis, of Conyers; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 18, at First Presbyterian Church, 1169 Clark St., in Covington, with the Rev. Dr. William B. Wade Jr., the Rev. Louly Hay and Dan Walden officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, from noon to 1 p.m. today.
