Barbara Padgett Davis, age 80, of Monticello, passed away Jan. 21 at her residence. The daughter of the late Hubert Lee Padgett and Virginia Gibson Padgett, she was born in Millen in 1930. She married Charles Henry Davis in 1951 in the Padgett’s home. They had four children and she began her work career as a school teacher for Savannah Christian School. Later she and Charles owned and operated the Davis Moving and Storage Company. The family moved to Charleston, S.C., in 1969 where she worked for Bud Berma Imports with her husband. In 1974 they moved to Chicago, Ill., to work with Moody Bible Institute and in 1988 the family came back South to Turtle Cove in Monticello where she worked for C.R. Bard for 15 years before retiring. She was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church for 22 years. In her lifetime, Mrs. Davis loved to read and cook. Thanksgiving was Barbara’s favorite holiday when she could gather the whole family around her and cook for them. She always made sure family pictures were taken for that event and that plenty of Rook games were played. Her family considered her to be a great Southern cook. She lived life with strength and determination. She showed us how to be strong like a tree that’s planted by the waters.

Her brother, Gordon A. Padgett preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband Charles Henry Davis Sr. of Monticello; sister-in-law Adelia Padgett of Savannah; children and spouses Virginia Wilkie and Hugh Wilkie of Charleston, Charles Henry Davis Sr. and Stephanie Davis of Ft. Mill, S.C., Frank Duane Davis and Joanna Nichelson of Social Circle and Christopher Alan Davis and Nancy Davis of Lilburn; grandchildren and spouses Georgia Wilkie Anderson and Mark Anderson, Virginia Hope Wilkie, Charles Henry, Davis III and Grace Davis, Adam Stephen Davis, Garrett Davis, Frank Duane Davis Jr., Ryan Robert Davis, Wesley Michael Davis and Bethany Wilson, Sean Tyler Davis, Elizabeth Virginia Davis, Cole Alexander Davis, and Caroline Grace Davis; and great grandchildren Caleb Mark Anderson, Madelyn Grace Anderson, and Wesley Michael Davis Jr.
