Barbara Morgan Walsh, of Macon, formally of Covington, passed away Nov. 13 after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late Willie Lester and Selma Holmes Morgan, she was born in 1933 in Greene County. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Covington where she served on numerous committees. A graduate of Brenau College in Gainesville, Mrs. Walsh was a lifelong educator and taught school in Gainesville; Allegheny County, Va.; and Newton County where she was elected to the Newton County Board of Education for two terms and served as chairman during her last term. A lover of the outdoors, she enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and caring for her pets. Her family and her faith were the most important things in her life and she loved each one dearly. Mrs. Walsh was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie and Randolph Morgan.
Surviving are husband of 36 years Hugh Hutcheson Walsh of Macon; sons and daughters-in-law Robert G. and Becky Gaither of Charlotte, N.C., John A. and Teresa Gaither of Groveland, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law Anne G. and Keith Swandby of Cloverdale, Va.; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Mrs. Walsh will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 16, in the Access Road chapel of Caldwell & Cowan with the Rev. Len Strozier and the Rev. David Walsh. Interment will follow in Social Circle City Cemetery. Visit www.caldwellandcowan.com to place online condolences.
