Barbara Carnes, of Covington, passed away April 9, 2017, at 86 years of age. For more than 25 years Mrs. Carnes worked at Newton Medical Center, first as an LPN, and then as a Registered Nurse. Most of her nursing career was spent working in the Intensive Care Unit, where she gave her special kind of care to patients and their families. Mrs. Carnes was a member of LifePointe Church of the Nazarene. In addition, she was an avid reader – enjoying everything from nursing journals to novels. Mrs. Carnes was a wonderful cook, and if necessary, very creative and self-sufficient. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Carnes was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, General Jackson Carnes; and parents, Arthur and Gertrude (Welch) Moore.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane Carnes of Molino, Florida; sons and daughters-in-law, Harley Jackson Carnes of Oakhurst, New Jersey, Timothy Mark and Diane Carnes of Augusta, Jon and Morgan Carnes of Pensacola, Florida, Keith Alfred and Susanne Carnes of Anchorage, Alaska; Kevin Carnes of Covington; more than 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Corbin of Tennessee, Lois Parrish of Florida, Naomi Holt, Jean Ledbetter, Pat Grant, all of North Carolina; brothers, Claude Moore, Carroll Moore, both of North Carolina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Carnes will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017, 11 a.m., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Pastor Wayne Rutherford officiating. Interment will follow in New Covington Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, Tuesday, April 11, from 6 – 8 p.m.
