Mrs. Avis Pendley passed away April 17, 2017.  She prepared her own obituary using Ecclesiastes – 3: 1-10 as the format.

A Time to be Born: She was born Sept. 13, 1928 to the late Lillie May Ramey Simpson and William Thomas Simpson in Lawrenceville.

A Time to Learn: She attended Snellville and Stone Mountain schools in Gwinnett County and Clarkston Tech (now Perimeter College) in DeKalb County, majoring in Early Childhood Education.

A Time to Love: She was married on Sept. 5, 1946 to the late beloved Robert O. (Bob) Pendley. To this union, four children were born. Peggy Elaine, Robert Michael, Thomas Phillip and Angela Pendley.

A Time to Labor: She was a devoted housewife, office manager for a small electric company, general office clerk for Paramount Paper Company, and Vice President of Pendley Cartage Company. In 1973, she opened Kiddie Cottage Day Care Center in Clarkston.

A Time to Serve: She served as a minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Mansfield congregation in Covington from 1992 until her death.

A Time to Mourn: Avis leaves behind daughter Peggy Puryear of Sautee, daughter Angela Rotthoff and her husband Chris of Loganville, GA, son Michael Pendley and his wife Anne of Dawsonville, and son Phillip Pendley and his wife Shirley of Social Circle.

Her grandchildren: Billy Lee, Tracey Ward, Brian Pendley, Stephanie Pendley, and Cassidy Callaway and great-grandchildren Will Ward and Taylor Pendley. Also sister Dorothy Driggers of Charleston, SC, many nieces and nephews, spiritual brothers and sisters, and countless wonderful friends.

A Time to Die: Avis passed away on April 17, 2017 after a rich and wonderful life, surrounded by people who adored her.

A Time to Rest: Resting in Jehovah’s memory until the Resurrection to Paradise on Earth.

Memorial services for Mrs. Pendley will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Elder Steve Morris officiating.  Interment will follow at Melwood Cemetery in Stone Mountain.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.  J.C.
