Mr. Anthony "Tony" Lamar Henderson died Oct. 28. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Prentest (Hattie Kimball) Henderson Sr., He was born in 1956 in Newton County, the third of nine children. One sister, Susan, preceded him in death. Mr. Henderson was christened as an infant at Grace United Methodist Church. He was educated in the Newton County Public School System, excelling in football. He learned brick masonry from instructor Mr. Weston Brown, and after graduation from Newton county High School in 1974, he began working as a brick mason. He resided in California, South Carolina and North Carolina, returning to Covington in the late 1990s. Mr. Henderson was the proud father of five children, and he was devoted to his children and family. He was a loving and caring person who enjoyed being with others. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Mr. Henderson was loved by all whose lives he touched. He enjoyed listening to music and was an avid sports fan.
Surviving are children Sandra (Douglas) Brown, Dontorrie Henderson Sr., Anthony Henderson, Dion Smith, Teneeshia Lackey; grandchildren DeMichael, Michael, Makayla, Jada, Tagen, Dontorrie Jr., Khy’re, Janiyah, Malajah, Shontica, LeAsia, Baleigh; parents Prentest and Hattie Henderson Sr.; sisters Pamela (Willie) Williams, Cathy Henderson, Cynthia (Dwight) Robinson, Marsha (Bruce) Thomas; brothers Prentest (Elaine) Henderson Jr., Danny Henderson, Lorenza Henderson; adopted brother Tyrone (Sheila) Phillips; god brothers Kenneth Tinsley, Arthur "Bro" Lawrence; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2 at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Murphy and the Rev. James Russell presiding. Interment followed at West Side Cemetery.
