Mr. Adam Strong died Feb. 18 in Newton County. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Artis (Jessie Smith) Strong, he was born in 1930 in Newton County. Mr. Strong attended Washington Street School and joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Covington, at a young age. A hard worker, he was employed by Georgia Highway, retiring in 1993 after over 30 years of dedicated service. In 1986 he married Jessie Evans Jackson and became the proud stepfather of eight children. His wife preceded him in death in 2003. Mr. Strong was a quiet and loving and caring person who loved to tell jokes. In his younger years, he loved to dance and listen to the blues. He was an avid Braves baseball fan.
Surviving are nieces Ms. Bethelyn Strong and Ms. Sonya Harris; nephew Mr. and Mrs. Omega (Felecia) Harris; great-niece Shicola Dyer; great-nephew Schivonte Osburn; stepdaughters Mr. and Mrs. S. M. (Marie) Norrington, Deacon Eugene and the Rev. Leathia Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Talib (Fareda) Abdul-Hakim, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Gloria) Gilstrap, the Rev. and Mrs. W.R. (Annette) Starks; stepsons Mr. and Mrs. Charlie (Sharron) Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin C. (Hilda) Jackson, Mr. Daniel Jackson; a host of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at St. Paul AME Church with Pastor Thomas Stegall, the Rev. Asa Floyd, the Rev. W.R. Starks and the Rev. Leathia Jackson officiating. Interment followed at Oxford Historical Cemetery.
